Prof. Dr. Ing. Christophe Lacroix

Emeritus professor for food biotechnology at the ETH Zurich

Christophe Lacroix has been Full Professor for Food Biotechnology at the Institute of Food Science and Nutrition at the ETH Zurich (2002-2023). He studied Food Engineering in Paris at currently AgroParisTech (1980) and then completed a PhD at Université Laval in Canada (1984). From 1984 to 2002 he was Professor of Dairy Biotechnology in the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences in Université Laval and founded and lead in 1986 the Dairy Research Centre STELA and the Canadian Research Network on Lactic Acid Bacteria (1997). His research in microbial biotechnology during his career as university professor in Canada and Switzerland, includes innovative bioprocessing technologies and bioengineering, functional microorganisms in food and health, modeling of the gut microbiome, and development of live biotherapeutic products. He has published over 350 articles, filed 15 patents, and supervised more than 70 doctoral students. His work has been supported by numerous national and international programs as well as industries worldwide. He is a co-founder and member of the board of director and scientific advisory board of the ETH spinoff company PharmaBiome AG, specializing in gut microbiome therapy.
