According to Dr. Robert Graham, one of the world's leading physician-chefs and a pioneer in Culinary Medicine, the answer is a resounding yes. In this inspiring keynote, Dr. Graham demonstrates why nutrition is among the most powerful - and often underutilized - forms of preventive medicine. Drawing on his unique background as a Harvard-trained physician, chef, and public health expert, he illustrates how scientific evidence can be translated into practical, delicious, and sustainable everyday choices.
From healthy soils that nourish crops to meals that nourish communities, Dr. Graham connects the entire food ecosystem: Agriculture, culinary arts, medicine, and environmental stewardship. Participants will leave with a renewed understanding that every meal is an opportunity to invest in lifelong health while contributing to a healthier planet.
Robert „Dr. Rob the Chef“ Graham
Physician, Chef, Culinary Medicine Pioneer & Advocate
Dr. Robert Graham followed an unconventional path - becoming a physician first and later a professionally trained chef after recognizing that many chronic diseases could be prevented long before patients entered the healthcare system.
A Harvard-trained physician with expertise in Internal, Integrative, Functional and Lifestyle Medicine, he completed his Master of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and three fellowships at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Graham is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of Culinary Medicine. Through nearly two decades of clinical practice, education, and advocacy, he has championed a simple but transformative belief: food is one of the most powerful forms of medicine.
A lifelong advocate of “Food as Medicine,” Dr. Rob co-founded FRESH Medicine and FRESH MED U with his wife Julie to promote an integrative, “food-first” approach to health. FRESH stands for Food, Relaxation, Exercise, Sleep, and Happiness - the 5 ingredients in your recipe for health. Dr. Graham has spent more than two decades pioneering the integration of Food as Medicine into clinical practice. Dr. Rob has prescribed food as medicine, has taught thousands of healthcare professionals how to cook whole-food, mostly plant-based meals and in 2013 created the first edible rooftop garden at a NYC hospital, created “healthy” menus where he fed both patients and employees.
He has advised health systems, health plans, NGOs, policymakers, medically tailored meal programs, and digital health platforms focused on prevention, engagement, and value-based outcomes. Dr. Graham serves as the Inaugural Medical Director of Integrative Medicine and Optimal Health at Catholic Health, Chief Health Officer at Food is Medicine Market Place, and Chief Strategy Officer at CYGLERA, where he guides clinical strategy, partnerships, and scalable Lifestyle Medicine solutions.
His work demonstrates that the future of healthcare begins not only in hospitals and clinics, but also in our farms, kitchens, and communities.
