New genomic techniques (NGTs), such as CRISPR/Cas, are currently at the center of a heated debate within Switzerland’s agricultural sector. Since 2005, a moratorium has prohibited the cultivation of genetically modified organisms in Swiss farming: A policy that has been extended several times, most recently until the 2030. But what comes next? In the meantime, a new law is being discussed that is supposed to come into effect before 2030 and would bypass the moratorium. In this panel discussion, experts from agriculture, politics, plant breeding, and civil society will examine the opportunities, risks, and open questions surrounding NGTs.
And then it’s time to taste:
Together with Sativa, we invite you to a guided variety tasting. Discover the diversity of flavours in different vegetable varieties – each from both organic and conventional breeding – all grown at the same location. Learn how organic breeders select cultivated plants so that, in the end, flavourful and wholesome varieties grow in gardens and fields. Let the experts guide you through the world of aromas, uncover fascinating background details, and perhaps even discover your new favourite variety.
This event is presented in collaboration with Sativa.
